Long sectioned of Sliced Petrified Log

Long sectioned of Petrified Log.  This petrified log looks like it was sliced like a carrot.  Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona.
The Quartz silica that makes up the petrified logs is very brittle and tends to break in clean lines.  hat is why the breaks look like saw cuts.  This log likely broke up while it was still buried due to natural soil movement over the centuries it was buried.  When the gully eroded  and exposed the log, the sections tumbled down into it.

Note this photo has been cropped down to remove an unflattering rear view of a couple of people and is smaller than most others in the Petrified Forest series.
