Summary of Additional Permissions:
These Additional Permissions give you other rights, subject to conditions, beyond those granted by the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.Attribution is not required for most uses. You may always provide attribution if you like and it is really appreciated when you do!
Attribution IS REQUIRED for posting or distribution of the images or photos on stock photo or other photo sharing and distributing platforms, regardless of whether the images or photos are offered free or for sale. (That means attribution is required if posted on Pinterest, SmugMug, Flickr, PhotoBucket, SnapFish, etc.) If you post our photos or images on a website that primarily features photos for download it must be attributed.
Examples:
Attribution is required (show the copyright info):
- Posting the image or photo on a website that consists mostly of photos. If you're not sure, provide the attribution! Posting in any collection of stock photos requires full attribution including the use license! This applies even if the photos are offered free.
- Posting the image or photo on a photo-sharing website or app, that is simply a collection of photos. If the site visually looks like a photo album you probably need to provide the attribution.
- A painting based on one of our photos is a derivative work that is substantially different, so it does not require attribution. Same for a collage, or if the photo is used as a background image or in some other way incorporated into a new material. Print it on a T-shirt for example. So if you have modified the image (just changing the size doesn't count as a modification) attribution is not required.
- One of our photos used as an illustration to go along with a written article, like in a newspaper, magazine, blog (both online or print,) would not require attribution. Keep in mind that ethical standards call for a simple single line copyright notice with date and name to appear below the photo. So if you want to look professional, use a simple copyright notice.
- One of our photos/images used in a school report would not require attribution. However, your instructor probably DOES require that you provide attribution in a footnote and/or bibliography, as that is the standard for good scholarship!
Text of the Additional Permissions Legal Agreement:
In reference to the "Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License" agreement:
Section 3 - "License Conditions", Subsection a, "Attribution", is waived for derivative works provided they are noticeably different in appearance. A change in size only is not a derivative work for purposes of this agreement.
Section 3 - "License Conditions", Subsection a, "Attribution", is waived provided You do NOT offer the Licensed Material primarily as a file for download, publish it on a photo sharing website or app, or distribute the Licensed Material as a stock image or stock photo, alone or in a package or collection. This applies if the Licensed Material is offered free or offered for sale.
All other terms and conditions of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License remain.-------------------------------
